Admission Requirements

Barber Students 1500 hours

Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency. Such as through a GED program acknowledged by a recognized GED testing facility. A valid form of an US identification

Student will be required to:

I. Complete 1500 hours (theory & floor Performance)

II. Have a well-constructed resume/ portfolio

III. Pass Board Examination

Theory Portion

History fundamentals of barbering 5 hours

Elementary chemistry relating to sterilization 25 hours

(Sanitation, Bacteriology, and Hygiene)

Barber implements, shaving, beard, haircutting, and styling 5 hours

Male hairpiece sales and services 5 hours

Hair coloring-tinting, bleaching, straightening 5 hours

Hair structure and chemicals 75 hours

Theory of massage and facial treatments 5 hours

Disorders of the skin, scalp, and hair 10 hours

Barber laws, rules, and regulations 5hours

Business management and salesmanship 10 hours

General review 20 hours

Practical Portion

Hair cutting, tapered and long (male and female) 900 hours

Shaving beard and mustaches 25 hours

Hair coloring 70 hours

Scalp and hair treatment, shampoo, etc. 50 hours

Facial treatments 20 hours

Permanent waxing, razor cutting, and styling 50 hours

Hairpieces-fitting (sales and services) 20 hours

Miscellaneous 195 hours

Total of 1500 hours

Education Continuation Opportunities

Must have a high school diploma, or equivalency; a current barber’s license, a minimum of 2 years of active experience as a registered barber, a valid US id, and 21 years of age.

Students will be required to:

I. 600 hours of Barber Instructor Training

II. Pass Board Barber Instructor Examination

Theory 70 hours

Facial 25 hours

Scalp treatment 25 hours

Hair styling 25 hours

Hair drying 25 hours

Shampooing 10 hours

Permanent/waving 50 hours

Hair pieces 10 hours

Desk receptionist, purchasing supplies, composing

questions and grading student papers 10 hours

Salesmanship 50 hours

Chemical 80 hours

School procedures 20 hours

Lectures and demonstrations 75 hours

Floor supervision 100 hours

School records, student enrollment, collections,

office work 25 hours
